Honing compound vs buffing compound?

I just picked up a Tormek knockoff at Harbor Freight. It was the display model and I got it for $65. I didn't get any of the extras that would come in the box, like the honing compound. I have several colors of buffing compound sticks. Can I use the buffing compound with OK results on the leather strop?

John, my sharpner came with a tube of autosol ( I think thats how you spell it ) honing compound....you can also use wenol
