    parts to build your own CNC

    For those of you thinking of building your own cnc; this stuff might just be the simplest way to build a strong stable table frame. I saw a display of this stuff at a local 4H fair and I was impressed.

    You can get it from the ebay 8020 garage sale store with steep discounts if you are ok with slightly blemished/scratched or used pieces.

    You can also fore go shipping costs many times by ordering from fastenall and pick up locally.

    The stuff is great to work with. My X gantry and Y axis rails are made of it
    oops ....1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 - yup all there, whew!

    That's what I used for mine. If you check out cnczone.com you'll find that most diy'ers are using 8020.

    FineLineAutomation sells kits for 8020 builds

    Hi,

    Yes, you can get complete bolt together kits from these guys. 4 axis electronics packages are available from CandCNC. There is a new rack and pinion design almost ready to ship that will allow building a 4' x 4' table (working area) by just bolting together the parts. Add Mach3 and CorelDRAW and SheetCAM and you have a complete high quality CNC solution.

    8020 is located about 20 mins from where i live.

    If you plan to build your own machine, I highly recommend the Joe's CNC 4x4 Hybrid. joescnc.com.

    The Hybrid uses 8020 rails and a base can be made from a variety of materials. Cost about $2000 - $3000 to build a 4' version. Add about $500 to bump it up to 4'x8'.

    Your build looks solid. Thanks for posting the pictures.
    Now that you have the machine set up are you planning on replacing any of the mdf parts with aluminum?
    Or is the build ridged enough as is?
