    Another Strange commission

When you do custom woodworking you sometimes get asked to do some pretty strange things, which makes it kinda exciting. I was asked by a client if I did any carving. He explained that he had put up a mirror over his bar and was afraid that it was a little top heavy and probably needed extra support but wanted something artistic to accent the figure that was present on the frame. What he wanted was a set of carved hands that would attach to the wall and overlap the frame. This is what I came up with.
I used the size of my own hands as a template and used royal paulownia as the wood as it is lightweight but strong and cuts and carves easily.

These are the hands in place but not stained.

    This is the finished product.

Stuff like this makes it all worth while

I like it! Fits right in with the style of mirror! Kinda Gothic - really cool! Thanks for sharing!

    Unique is an under statement!
I’d like to see the rest of the antique, from what I can see it looks equally interesting.

Oddly enough, I think when stained they will fit right in! Sure will grab the attention of an unsuspecting soul when he/she looks in the mirror!

Like John, at first I was taken by surprise. the real surprise is how well they blend right in.

    Thanks all for the comments
It's always fun to take on unusual little projects like this. Can't say that I'm a carver but the customer was thrilled with the end result. Here is another view of the MONSTER Mirror.

    Eerie Monster Mirror...
    But in a neat way.

What would finish it off would be caving the bottom brackets to look like legs.

Mike I do think you need to take a few minutes away from the shop and trim your nails.
Other than that the mirror addition looks good …I like it!

I was not sure about your carving from the first photos, but the photo of the finished product on the mirror shows that you were right on target. Very nice.
