Actually a small portable podium. Sunday nights I like to preach from the floor and not the larger pulpit. But all they have at the new church is a metal music stand that wobbles. Any one got idea's for a really cool looking podium I can build?

Have a Nice Day!
I had a couple that I used but there is portable and then portable. Do you need lighter weight, or lighter and collapsible?
What are the decor considerations?
Any denominational requirements?
I guess I mean lighter weight. No decor considerations other than, I want to be cool looking... maybe a little different. No other requirements.... well, might like a little bigger top to lay stuff on.

I do not know your budget but I made a few podiums, in different designs. One of the coolest is a short architectural column with capitals. They are cast plastic and hollow. I have used the big 6" X 6" hollow fence posts as the center column and put a built up fitted base and top. The center is strong enough and the majority of the weight is shed in the column. You could do the same thing with downspouts, using four lengths the same size and arranging the downspout in a pattern of one in each corner of a square plate (say an 8" X 8" plate) then affix the plate to a base and top. Using wood base and top with plastic pylon column in the center will cut the weight to half or one third of an all wood podium.

These links are some products this company has available.I used balusters and newels in a couple and then the downspouts in another. I am no longer an officer in The Salvation Army so I do not have any photos. Sorry. Hope this helps a bit. The wrought Iron was an afterthought idea. Four balusters at each corner and a wood capital and plate would finish the deal. The balusters or what ever you use only help in a decorative and lighten the load sort of way.

Here's a music stand that I think is very inspired. Small but unique and could serve well as a podium I would think...

Not of much actual use in this case, but just as an FYI, what you want is actually a "Lectern", not a Podium. A Podium is a platform, like a stage, to elevate you.
Jon,
Sorry to resurrect an old post, but you might check out my most recent post, as I'm doing the same thing for my church. It might be of some use to you if you've not found anything else yet. I'm still trying to figure out the connection for the legs.
