Reliable Drill/countersink Bit Combinations

Over the years, I've bought these from numerous suppliers. Every one I have allows the drill bit to slip inside the countersink portion. I'll set the depth for a 1 1/4" screw and after boring a hole or two, the bit will slip up into the countersink. This, I know, is a minor irritation, but I'm getting older and crankier. Does anyone know of a supplier that sells them that locks the depth up tight?

Have you tried a Fuller? Available from a number of suppliers, including Woodcraft and Lee Valley.

Thanks for your reply. I think I have one from Fuller, but I'll have to check to see if I can identify.Last one I tried was from Lee Valley. Same problem--the bit eventually slips up. Maybe my problem is "operator error", like pushing them too fast.

If all else fails use a stop coller behind the countersink, Fuller makes them also. Fuller uses 2 set screws in their countersinks (the ones I have anyway) which is better than a lot have seen.

Everyone knows about the Fuller type J countersink and most of the other ones at LV are patterned after them but you want the Fuller type J and you won't have anymore problems with the bit loosening. I also prefer the makita quad type countersinks.

I use the Makita. They have a flat surface ground on the shank of the drill bit for the set screw. Also when reversing the counter sink to use the screw driver the holder will accept the drill bit extend out fully, I have others where the drill bit will bottom out in the holder before the slip collar will engage.
