    Christmas Toy

I used the plans in "Wood Mag" to build this excavator for our god-child. He is three, and should have fun in his sandbox...moving the earth. I made it out of walnut and maple, and the kit for wheels and bolts.

Thats funny I just walked in from the shop and had just finished cutting all the pieces for the same thing. This is my first wood working project.

That took a lot of cutting and sanding!! Nice work, and excellent combination of woods.

I bet you have one very happy god child xmas morning,

Nice job on the excavator Jerry.
It may not be the last toy that is built for his sandbox though....
Didn't the wood mag have some crane plan a few months back.
Would look good with that excavator.

Beautiful excavator! Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I have a feeling that "toy" will be around for a long time, and perhaps it will even be passed on to the next generation (I hope you put your initials and a date on it somewhere).
    Very nice job!

    Rick,
Good luck with the toy. It is pretty easy to build, although the instructions could use some "expounding" in certain areas. If you run into trouble, write me. I had to read 'between the lines' in a couple places.

Thanks John, yes, a LOT of cutting and sanding, but was a lot of fun. Thank goodness for being able to buy the "kit" for the axels and wheels.

    Gary,
Already thought about that, maybe for his next birthday?? This was my first toy, and a lot of fun. Maybe I will look for bulldozer plans, or a tractor trailer to put this excavator on.

    Thanks Sarge,
I thought the two colors looked good too. After a couple coats of spar varnish, they really popped!!

    Christmas Toy

Well done, Gerry. Isn't it fun to do it for the kids? I am done buying gifts for my grandsons. That's what the woodshop is for! They may not all appreciate it right now but I bet they will hang on to these and proudly show them off in later years. At least that what I have done with the hand made things given to me. Now the toys form a collection going back three generations. Keep on making them.
If you got to where you were going where would it be?
