    laser

Thats a bit much for just having a deep interest in a laser,i wanted something that could cut say 1/8 to 1/4 wood ,engrave ,etch glass etc.
Have a cnc now tried to get a laser head outfitted to the gantry but all manufacturers were frowning and saying its better to buy the whole unit than to fit a head on my machine.
Myabe i don't have to go 120 watt

That's correct Stan. The Legend EXT is offered in 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 & 120Watts of engraving and cutting power.

Depending on the hardness of wood, you can cut 1/4" with a 40Watt.
A 120Watt will cut thru the same 1/4" like butta but is not needed. There's also a significant price difference between a 40Watt and 120Watt EXT.

    Stan:
I have an EXT 40watt and I have really enjoyed it. It cuts 1/4" wood without a problem and 1/4" acrylic. I enjoy the big table, but people here will debate the wisdom of more table opposed to more power. With a 36" table your able to do things that you just can't accomplish with smaller tables. Happy Holidays

In this economy you should be able to get some freebies.

I'm getting emails from ULS on their newer large open format industrial system, $27,500 with a 50 watt laser, and this system can untilize multiple lasers.

I couldn't agree more. I have a 38" x 20", with doors that open making the 20" actually unlimited, and 30 watts. I have had quite a few jobs that I could NOT have done with a smaller laser but I haven't had a single job that I couldn't do because of having 30 watts. There are some that would have run faster with more power, but nothing I couldn't do.

    appreciate all the ideas

this is the machine i am looking at right now for the new year
36x24, auto focus ,red dot pointer, usb interface ,100 watt (an extra would be the rotary attachment which does interest me .)
Comes with exhaust fan,air assist pump , water cooling pump, laserdraw software and drivers for corel draw and autocad.
I would like to go to the next size but the footprint is getting to a point where it might be a space problem so i may have to stick to 36x24

Excuse me for not being clear. What I mean was in terms of money to spend Scott. Would you be better off to spend your budgeted amount on power or table size? I elected to go with the larger table size in lieu of a machine with more power but smaller. I had to take into consideration what my intended use was and which was more valuable to me. I did some pretty careful research prior to laying out $27k at the time.
