    making a knob?

Hey guys, I have a shopsmith that is just perfect for doing little projects such as a plane knob. I need to make a knob and a tote for the 5 1/2 that I have. I know I could just buy the knob and tote online, but I'd rather make one. However, I know nothing about turning so is there some place online I can get a tutorial or something? Also, how do you choose the wood for a tote and knob combo and how do I align the grain?

    There's more and better out there, I suspect....but here's a start:

    http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthre...hlight=chisels

“Perhaps then, you will say, ‘But where can one have a boat like that built today?’ And I will tell you that there are still some honest men who can sharpen a saw, plane, or adze...men (who) live and work in out of the way places, but that is lucky, for they can acquire materials for one third of city prices. Best, some of these gentlemen’s boatshops are in places where nothing but the occasional honk of a wild goose will distract them from their work.” -- L Francis Herreshoff

Here is a link to Leif Hansons tutorial on making a stairsaw:

    http://www.norsewoodsmith.com/ww/stairsaw/saws.htm

It includes procedures for making the handle to will of benefit in making a tote: cut out profile, rasp, file, and sand

Next thing you know you'll be making your own tools. Enjoy the ride
