Vice Mounting Question

Hi all,

I'm building a new bench and I was wondering what everyone does to mount the face vice. Wich is prefered, morticing into the front rail or mounting behind the rail, using it as the face?

I mortised mine into the back of the rail. It's a bit of trouble but I believe it is the best way.

Definitely agree with Terry. If all goes well I'll be mounting mine that way later this week.

I mortised my front vise flush with the edge of my bench. This way you can use the entire edge for a jaw.
