    Ole Arn

I bought a new old lathe today. Ran across a Wallace Lathe on Craigs List and it really appealed to me. After looking at it I decided to buy it and drag it home.

I liked the size and construction of the machine. It is cast iron and smaller than my Metal Lathe and bigger than my Grizzly Pen Lathe. The machine is a No. 46 MultiSpeed, has 9 spindle speeds, 540 to 2400 RPM's and likely dates from 1926-1932. The headstock is locked in a conventional position for spindle turning but can be swiveled 90 degrees to allow bowl turning with an indexing pin at both locations.

Spindle bearings seem tight and the motor runs smooth and cool. There are no marks or wear to indicate that it has ever been used.

Anyone have any information on this machine in addition to what is on OWWN?

Very cool. Wallace made some mice 8" jointers, too. The ones I've seen had angled knives on the cutterhead. I'm not sure how you had to sharpen them. Angle was only a few degrees. They were shortish, but looked very industrial.
