Shaker Shaker Night Night Stand Stand

    His-and-hers Mission-style, three-drawer night stands.

African Mahogany hardwood and ply. Baltic birch drawer boxes with African Mahogany ply bottoms. M&T joinery.

    Done, but ... not finished

I've been chipping away at these for so long ... when my wife asked my input on what color she should die her hair ... I said ... you guessed it: Mahogany??

Watco Danish Oil ... at some point

    Thanks for looking!

Nice looking night stands. Can't wait to see them with the finish on.

Nice work on the design and the execution of the M&T joints! Would look great with the Watco on them - better get to sanding!

Nice looking night stands, I hope my pile of Mahogany can turn out half as nice!

    Talking

Looking at the first picture, i think you meant to say
    "His-and-Hers Missionary style"
All joking aside Neil, very well made night stands indeed.

    LOL @ Kevin's comment

It's even funnier than you knew, though.

I've been calling the darned things Shaker-style, but ... they aren't. They're Mission style.

    Mea culpa.

Awwwwwww, Man?!? I have to put a finish on these things??

There HAS to be somebody I can get to do it for me. WHAAAAAAaaaa!

I know, I know. It's up to me. I'll be on it, shortly.

Thanks much for the comments/compliments, all. It's been (I'm telling YOU all?) a labor of love.

    Clothes are on!

I wanted to finish #1, first ... just to get the feel of how the Watco would work.

The end result: I like the outcome. #2 will be done the same way:

    • Two coats of Watco Danish oil, foam brush applied
    • A third coat of Danish Oil, applied with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper
    • A coat of Johnson's Paste Wax, applied with 0000 steel wool

It's airing out, in the garage, right now.

    Thanks for looking!!

Very nice. I love the natural look that just an oil finish lets off. Not all glossy and shiney like most furniture these days. I bet they feel even better than they look. Great job with the mahogany, the stuff can be difficult to work sometimes.
