Thread: Walnut Dining Table

    Walnut Dining Table

My lastest project is a 42 x 96 dining table made from walnut. The top is fabricated from three boards that originally were 1 3/8 thick (rough). I had to hand plane the boards to approx 1 1/4 thickness with a #4 handplane because my 12" jointer/planer could not accomodate the width.
The base is all 8/4 walnut. The top has a sealcoat followed by 7 coats of Arm-R-Seal. This project was very challenging because of the size and weight of the boards. I enjoyed the challenge. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful wood in that top! Doesn't look like there would be much wobble to it. Must be a beast to move! Well done!

That looks terrific! Amazing to me that people can flatten a top like that with a hand plane.

Well George, that answers the question I have been wanting to ask you. It came out great! I still want an up close and personal view to see the undercarriage. Makers just gotta see it all ya know.

Since you snuck in a tease shot, you owe these folks a better view of that cabinet/sideboard.

    Congratulations. It is magnificent.

    What's next?

George, that is some very nice work on the table - great looking wood, and the surface is very well done. Extra credit for handplaning!!

Also, I did notice the sideboard, and it appears you may be holding out on us!

As obvious and already stated.. the grain match on the top is outstanding. I love working on large carcass for whatever reason.. probably the challenge of taking it on alone? Nice finish on the walnut also. And as Lowell... kudo's to you for the patience to tackle the top with a #4. That would consume some time for sure. Do you not have a #7 or jack?

    Well done...
