Anyone use a belt driven grinder to sharpen? I am looking for photos of some setup's and can't seem to locate any online. I am looking to set one up using a mandrel with a lower 1725 RPM motor. Any help is appreciated.

Gary,
If you look at Alan Lacers skew video, he has a belt driven grinder for his buffing tools.
BTW, if you are using a belt drive, then selecting the proper pulleys will give you any desired grinder speed - no special low speed motor necessary. You could even set it up as a variable speed with multiple pulleys just like a lathe.

Bob Hamilton has a very nice video on sharpening that shows his belt driven setup.

Hope this helps.

Here is the table I made about 25 years ago. F/L grinding wheel, F/R Cratex honing wheel, B/L stropping wheel, B/R accessory (wire brush, sanding disc, etc).
I would make the interior shaft length just a little longer than the pulley and use a proper shaft (instead of threaded rod) to reduce vibration. The motor is underneath and hinged on one end and the weight of it provides the tension. It also runs forward or reverse with just a tug/push of the grinding wheel (necessary for the honing and stropping wheels)
