Whats' the best way to harvest this burl?

Our ranch in the Texas Hill Country has literally thousands of these Oak trees that are overcome with heavy burl. I want to get into turning soon so I plan on using a lot of the wood then. I was also thinking of slicing some of it into veneer. I've harvested some larger oaks, but nothing that was solid burl. Most of it was fairly straight grained. I had mild success using latex paint as a sealer. There was some checking, but nothing past 2" deep. Should I cut these into individual pieces and seal both ends? I'm really eager to see how this stuff looks! Some of the trees can get pretty crazy.

Jason, that wood is absolutely useless. I'll take it off your hands and give ya a little boot to ease the pain.
Seriously, you have a lot of nice wood there. I've been sealing my mesquite with latex, and have not had any bad cracks or checks...I do use a lot of paint though.

If it is not on ur property, then the best way to harvest is at night wearing a ninja outfit.
