    Wife got a new job....

Which, of course, will mean new business cards.

And … of course … THAT means she’ll be needing a way to display them, on her desk.

    AHA ! A PROJECT :-)

For the woods: Wenge, Maple, Bolivian Rosewood Morado, Padauk, and Jatoba (not in that order !):

Slice ‘em, dice ‘em, glue ‘em up, and then …

Use a 3/8” straight bit, and make a hole, Gentlemen !

Put a 1/8” roundover on the front … sand it all down … put some amber shellac on it (only one coat, so far), and … you get … this:

    Thanks for looking !

You have some nice wood there; however, I do not like the look of the finish on the project. The gloss detracts and the sanding could be better IMHO. You might consider cutting the gloss by using 0000 steel wool.

On small projects like this finish is everything.

I genuinely appreciate the constructive feedback, Gordon.

If I can get it back from my wife, I'll have another look, and may knock it down.

The funny thing is, though, I kept looking at it, and looking at it, and -- in "normal" viewing conditions (incandescent lights of my house; high CRI fluorescents of my shop), it doesn't LOOK so darned glossy.

But ... when the flash of the camera hit it ... it sure does.

I'll see which way SWMBO wants to go, and ... do as I'm commanded to

    But ... sincerely ... thanks.

I've got a buddy who is a verrrry talented woodworker, but he hits everything with lots of poly, and -- to MY eye -- some of IT is way too glossy, so ... I understand exactly what you mean.

    Cheers !
