Glue / Paint Specialists - Please HELP!!

    Hi all -
Just about to (finally) finish a project.
I'll need to glue very little hinges in place. They'll be used very rarely.
I have no way of calculating their eventual final position (long story) before final assembly.
Would 5-minute epoxy glue hold (permanently) on top of un-oiled milk paint?
Is there anything stronger you'd recommend?
    Thank you.

    Howard,

I would use 90 minute epoxy as it has better holding strength than 5 minute epoxy. Here's what I do on my music boxes with hinges:

    1. Sand all surfaces and prep for finish.
    2. Apply the finish.
    3. Mark for the hinges.
    4. Drill for each hinge.
    5. Apply a small amount of glue for each hinge half and mount the hinges.

I don't know what you are making, but if you are using bullet hinges or pin hinges, the epoxy will hold them just fine. If you paint where the hinges will be going? Simply use a sharp chisel and scrape the hinge location clean and then glue. I really don't think that the epoxy will hold very well on top of paint.

    Just my 2¢ worth.
    Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,
