Thumbs up Dust Eliminator is INSTALLED !!!! PICS

I am so-o-o-o-o excited..!!!!! Terry came down late Friday afternoon / early evening and we began installing the ducting and had almost every bit of it done in about 5 hours. We spent the day Saturday (today) finishing up the ducting, installing the blast gates and finalizing the layout of just where everything was gonna be.

Here are some of the pics from the last day and a half. All in all, if two people are working on the installation and ducting....about 12 hours work.

Here is the start of the ducting run with a drop to where the lathe will sit and a drop to go over to my Robland X31.

This is a shot of the ducting crossing from on bay of the shop to the next bay to reach my CMS. You can see where we had to make the turn to cross the shop (30 feet) to reach my Jet TS, Laguna LT16 and the Performax.

Here is a shot of the ducting crossing over the entire width of the shop to make the drop to the machines listed above.

Here is the FarrAPC filter that I was fortunate to get before those goobers decided that they didn't like selling them one at a time. Geesh!!!! One would think that they way the economy is now, they would LIKE the increase in product sales.

Here is a shot of preping the blast gates for installation into the ducting. I made my blaste gates according to Terry's plans and I sealed the wood with two coats of shellac.

Here is a pic of the uninstalled blast gate TREE that will be where the BS, TS and Performax will get their dust collection from. Once completed, this sucker was "heavy"!!

Here is the Dust Eliminator installed and ready for testing. Ain't she purddy?!!!!

Here is the blast gate "tree" installed into the duct system. I think it looks really nice and all gates are within easy reacy and out of the way.

So how did it all come out?
Well Terry brought his test equipment with him to check out the installed system since there was a LOT of duct work, Y's, 45's, 22.5's and such in my design. Without sealing ANYTHING at all, we tested almost 1,400 CFM and 7,100 FPM and all at 19.8 AMPS!
We tested the longest run, which was to my Jet TS on the other side of the shop and we got 1,058 CFM "at" the TS. Just for giggles we put a 6" to 4" reducer right at the TS and tested again. Guess what......dropping from a 6" to a 4" reduced the CFM to around 650 CFM at the TS.....We lost about 400 CFM by reducing the ducting at the machine from 6" to 4". I'm hooking her up on a 6" adapter!!!!! Oh...and by the way...we tested the system with one of these:

Well, that's it for now........Once I have the system sealed up, and everything hooked up, we will test the effeciency once again and will post the numbers of what it will do with proper sealing.

Thanks for taking a look at my progress and THANKS to Terry for his assistance of the installation and for making it an affordable and important part of making the shop easier to keep clean and making the air better to breathe.

So you can't buy Farr filters any more? (and you can't get Jet impellors till June as I just found out). There've got to be other options for these parts. I'd kinda like to buy a DE myself.....

    Working on it......

We would knida like to sell you one too!!!!

I'm trying to get some answers on the impeller issue and the filter issue as well. I am in direct contact with the Farr factory and Jet engineering as well. Hopefully I can have some answers for these problems Monday. I'll let you know as soon as I have more information.

    Thanks,

    Terry

    Thanks Jim,

Trying to solve these outside vendor problems are job one right now. I believe that we have our stuff together on what we are selling and if I can just get a bit of help from Farr and Jet then we will be good to go.

The folks over at Wynn Enviromental have good options for filters and we may need to concentrate on the Troits instead of the Farrs.

    http://www.wynnenv.com/torit_filters.htm

There is really no other impeller that does the job of the Jet so we are going to have to get them to do a better job of stocking the part. What I find interesting about this situation is that I'm having to convince Jet that they need to have better availability on a part that I get no revenue from at all!!! I know if I was selling parts like hotcakes I would try and have enough to fill the orders. Seems silly to me but what do I know!!

thought I would jump in as well

These are pictures of my DE cyclone that I just finished up as well. Dennis appears to have taken the lead and has plumbing installed but I hope to catch up rather quickly.

The green matches the other tools and I have to have my garage matching ya know.

The bottom picture appears that the wooden rings are crooked and leaning forward but in actuality they are not. Must be a trick of the camera.

I will post results when its up and sucking but I have no doubt that in my small shop(2 car garage) it will be incredible.

Well.....I got almost all the ducting sealed last night, let it dry over night and decided that since I needed to clean out the TS so I can seal the bottom DC pan inside the cabinet saw, I figured that I would put the 6" to 4" reducer on the end of the duct, hook up my 10 ft section of 4" flex hose to that and then hook it up to my TS dust port and see what would happen.

What happened next was totally unexpected! I turned the cyclone on and heard this "woosh"ing sound, let is run for just about 30 seconds and shut it off. I went over to the TS, opened the cabinet door and it was clean!!!

Why was this unexpected? Well...I have been using my 2hp 2 bag DC on this saw for some time now. I simply got lazy during the last 2 to 3 weeks and never even hooked it up to the saw since I had to (1) move the DC to where the flex hose would reach, (2) hook up the hose to the saw, (3) do what cutting I needed to get done and then (4) shut the DC off, disconnect it from the saw and roll it back out of the way.

So needless to say I KNEW that there was about a gallon or so of sawdust inside the cabinet. The best I can figure is that the best I was getting with my 2hp bagged DC was somewhere around 250 to 300 CFM...at best..........Now due to Terry testing the system at the TS yesterday and it tested at around 650 CFM with the 4" reducer hooked up to the ducting.....1058 with 6" at the saw.....I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to just test out the system without a filter on the cyclone outlet at all.

There was no dust of any visible size coming out of the outlet....None, Zero, Zilch....Nada.........and much to my amazement, the inside of the TS cabinet was swept clean!!

To test the system a little further....I switched over to another pile of "fine" sawdust and fed the cyclone as much as I could and as fast as I could......it took it ALL.......and still NO DUST coming out of the cyclone outlet.!!!!!

Am I impressed? YES!!! The Problem? I should have done this a LONG time ago!!!! The Bill Pentz designed Dust Eliminator.....sucks the competition into its collection drum.!!
    Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,

    Thumbs up Looks great Dennis.

Lots of hard work there. Where is the plan for the dust sucker? Steve

    parts availability

You guys waiting on the Jet impellor to become available should just go ahead and order the cyclone and start building it. Depending on your schedule, you are going to have a few weeks into just the building of the cyclone(it took me about 4. mostly weekends and a few hours a few mornings) as I am very busy during the week.

Get the cyclone all done and then hopefully the impellors will be ready. That way you are ready to go at that time rather than waiting who knows how long for them to arrive to just get started.

    Just my $.02

Great job on the system, Dennis. IMHO, good dust collection is the best investment you can make into your shop facilities, too.
