Friends Of The Creek Read This

Aaron has added a feature that allows you to place a direct link in your signature to your FOTC record.

You can click on the NorthWind Associates link below to see how it works.

To enable your link go to your FOTC record and look for the little + sign next to your name and click on it. Copy the URL address from the top of your browser and then go to your usercp and edit your signature.

If you go to Friends of the Creek and find your listing, click on the plus sign in the bottom right hand corner, which loads your listing by itself. The URL will look something like this:

    http://www.sawmillcreek.org/friends.php?id=8

Seeing that my ID is #8, in my signature I would use:

    [FOTC=8]SawmillCreek.org[/FOTC]

    which would produce:

    SawmillCreek.org
You might also notice that Aaron has setup the FOTC Directory to provide 15 entries per page rather than the long list it used to provide.

Remember....we don't allow links in signatures however we certainly will make an exception in the case of FOTC records.

Thanks to all of you for joining our FOTC Directory, we will have a very nice graphic on our new Main Page for the FOTC Directory when we install vBulletin 4 this Saturday.

Can't find any hotlink feature in the sig screen. I've tried combinations of href, anchors, url, etc. and nothing seems to work. What's the proper format?

And this is going to make the sig hotlink policing harder as now verification needs to be made they're allowed to put a link there. Newbies (and oldies) are going to see links in other sigs and think it's okay to put it in theirs. This is going to be an interesting experiment...

    Dan,

Use the hotlink icon, the same one you would use in any post.

If you hover over my signature link you can see that it goes to friends.php and my id number so it should be easy to identify unauthorized links.

There is no hotlink button in the sig editor like there is in a thread editor (at least not for me). I tried putting it in directly using the URL tags, which I could do in the body of a standard message, but vB is still set up to flag HTML tags as errors.

Note the Hi-Tec Designs in my link that "looks" like a hotlink, but the sig editor stripped out the actual hotlink to the FOTC area. EDIT: I notice it doesn't show up in my sig at all now...

Try this with a non-administrator account and see if you get the same effect as me...

I haven't quite solved this yet but in the FOTC list next to your name there is a small + sign. Click on that

    Signature Edit

Once you click on the little + sign and save the URL to your clipboard go to your UserCP and select edit signature.

From the edit box you should see something like the picture below, note the red circle around the hot link button.

Enter your company name then select it and then select the hot button icon, insert the URL from your clipboard into the box.

I copied the link without a problem, but that hotlink button does not appear in my signature editor screen... it only appears in the "new thread" screen. I know what button you're talking about, but it simply doesn't show up in the sig editor... my guess is mods and administrators have that option enabled, the rest of us poor folk don't.

Here's a pic of the sig editor... note the lack of the hotlink button.

I just viewed your post as if I were going to edit it and here's what it looks like.

    I can't explain it.

Yes... thread editing shows a hotlink button, but the signature editor does not. If I were to edit my own post or post something new, I would have access to the hotlink button... just not in the sig editor.

Yep, that's the best I could do, too...

As mods and administrators, your accounts don't have the same level of restrictions, so hotlinks aren't disabled. I'm willing to bet it's not easy to enable hotlinks in the sig editor just for people who are FOTC (though I could be wrong, it may be as easy as creating another user level for FOTC between "Member" and "Moderator" that enables just that feature). Until then, I don't think even mod-edited sigs will display hotlinks.

And I don't see opening hotlinks to everyone as a valid possibility as links are already somewhat abused from time to time.

And why am I the only one posting about this... does no one else care about FOTC?

    Dan,

That can be a problem for us as Moderators. A member can experience a problem or see something but because we don't see the exact same information you do (our page has slightly different pulldowns, etc.) it sometimes makes it difficult to try to assist a member and determine if the problem is related to the Creek or the member's browser.

If we log out and log in as Guests....it's still not the same as a member or Contributor either.
