How to make rebate on top?

I can't figure out the best method to do the 2 inch by 1/4" rebate on this display table top.
At first I thought of a dado blade but then there'd be the score marks.
    Top is 1" thick initially.
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Plunge router with a spiral downcut bit? You can clamp a straight board to the top to use as a guide.

Or on a shaper, or, carefully, on a table saw with the top on edge. Any method will probably require more or less cleaning up, maybe with hand planes and/or scraping and sanding.

Some sort of rebate cutter on a spindle moulder (shaper) sounds like it would enable a full depth finishing pass: http://www.felder-tooling.co.uk/werk...werkzeuge.html I'm only getting into using shapers, but gather that it's advisable to make a cut like that with the workpiece over the cutter - so that if it lifts at all it's not going to do irrecoverable harm.

Could be wrong, but I don't think router cutters come in a large enough diameter (horizontal = speed/burning/safety issues?) or length and diameter (vertical) to handle a 2 in rebate, but for sure it'd be a router table only job at best.

Do you need a radius in the corner too??
