Christmas Gift to Good Pastor Friend

I have a friend back in Indiana that is a Christian Church-Disciples of Christ minister. Always wanted to try a chalice that this denomination uses as one of the church symbols. I got fairly close but still not perfect but hope he likes it any way. Turned from ash that had a couple branches growing out of the log. About 3 1/4 across the top and 5" tall. Finished with danish oil with satin lacquer over the top. Cross in inlaid with turquoise.
    Thanks or looking.l009.jpg006.jpg

Very nice grain on the wood. The stem is pretty interesting too ...

Steve, I would say you got pretty close!! Nice piece of wood, and nice work. A gift that certainly will have special meaning to the minister, I am sure.

  8. That is pretty, and I am sure the Pastor will appreciate the effort, the time, the thoughtfulness and what you put into it. This is a very nice piece!

Very nice Steve, I would have not guessed it to be ash though, I thought for sure it was honey locust, but I never turned ash before.

Steve - I really like the simple form! Love the grain and your turquoise inlay works well with the overall color of the wood! Your friend will be very pleased with his gift!

Thanks for the nice comments. At least I think it is Ash from the bark but I have been wrong before at least once or twice, perhaps it is Honey Locust. I have had this piece of wood for about 2 years. Picked it up along the highway after a work crew trimed some trees in the fence row, about 8" across and 5' long. Going in the mail today.
