    keller jig questions

This jig looks very attractive for my purposes making small keep sake boxes for grandkids.
Easy set up, bearing guided bits etc.

I have a couple questions for you Keller users. Can I use any bit that is bearing guided? If yes that would seem to give me quite a variety of apearances and I can live with spacing of 1 and 1/8 inches between joints. I would like to make dovetails that are only 1/4 inch wide if that's possible in thin stock wood

The jig on sale does not have aluminum templates, do you think that will be a problem in a limited use, small scale box making hobby environment?

    thanks

No, you should use bits designed for the Keller jig. The width and the angle of the dovetail bit must match the template design. You don't have to buy bits from Keller. Check other manufacturers of router bits for ones intended for use with the Keller -- for instance http://www.amanatool.com/bits-fv/45469.html.

The plastic template has worked fine for me for a good twenty years.
