Ar you talking portable or reguler planer? I assume since your talking about having $350 and also having it in your price range you are thinking the second. If so, which models?

    Scott,
    Turn off the caps.

I owned the Delta 12 1/2". I really liked it. It did a great job for me. Like most of us, we don't have a "feel" for other brands but I am sure that any one you pick will do the job for you. Get the best price!

    Larry -

Look for the best deal because most any of them will do what you need them to do. Also check the availability and ease of changing the replacement blades.

I think you mean Larry .

    Hey Larry,

I think any will do. If that is the two speed Delta go for it. Unless you are able to get the better Dewalt for that price in that case, run for it.

    Your Choice

I have the Dewalt 734. It has a three knife head and also came with the dust hood. The Delta and Hitachi, I seem to remember, didn't come with one and that meant more $$. And you REALLY need to get those chips collected. BTW, it makes a lot of chips too. The gauges and head lock were easy to use. But, as I always say, whatever curdles your cream!!!

    Advise on planer

I just got the DW735 for Christmas when Lowes was selling it for $399. It works flawlessly out of the box. The DW734 is similar and I assume the quality to be the same. I did buy the base from Amazon for this planer and it is as stable as a rock.
