New Home For Drum Sander & Planer

Well as promised herein are some pics of the swivel-topped roll-a-round tool cabinet I just finished. I modified Wood Magazine's plan by:

    1. Lowering height to match table saw (Small shop).
    2. Changing pivot point size from 3/8" to 1/2".
    3. Making smaller drawer at bottom.
    4. Lengthening swivel-top for planer base.
    5. Using MDF instead of birch plywood.
    6. Using machine roller frame instead of casters.

Pic 1 Gluing up double sides.
Pic 2 Finished without bench top tools.
Pic 3 Planer set up without drum sander.
Pic 4 Drum sander set up with planer stored.

    Ron,

That's one cool looking roll around cabinet! But I have a question. Why does the top pivot if it can't when the planer is in place? It may be obvious, but the obvious some times escapes me

    Jim,

Sorry to confuse you but pic 3 was shown without drum sander because it was not recieved at time of photo. They both swivel as shown in pic 4.

Sorry Ron but now I see that the planer is mounted upside down in pic 4 failed to notice that before. How balanced is the system. With the sander on top, does the weight of the two machines have to be close to the same?

    Ron -

Very slick adaptation. Good space savings. How easily does it rotate?

Jim- The weight diff is about 20 lbs. on sander side.

Ted- It rotates very easy, again you are holding only 20 lbs. as you rotate it.

    Ron:

Excillent job, great looking cabinet work. Looks like it will really do the job for you. I need to start thinking the same way here.
