    Made from memory

I am not sure I like the balance I may have to make some changes. But here is my latest Mallet with an oak head & cherry handle. Part spin-ny thing part not spin-ny thing. Question is this mallet use with chisels or for carving or for what.

I just remember Dad having one that was bigger & heavier than this one. I never saw him use it.

I can't help with what it is used for, but I really like it!

Looks great, Bart! Very nice combination of wood and methods.

Hi, I've made a lot of mallets for me and for other people. the thing that I think is real important is the angle of the striking surface. If you have ahold of the handle and your hand is touching the bench, the head should be parallel with the table. I use mine for everthing, not driving nails. I put a leather face on one side and plain on the other.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

Thanks Robert for the information that is the information I needed. I have already started tuning it up. It will just need a few degrees taken off of the face on each end at the top.

But I do have a question along this line. Isn't it more important that the head be square to the surface of the table your working on when you bring it down on the chisel head? This is the way my mallet is now.
