    Birdhouse:African Sumac and Honey Locust

Here's another birdhouse. It's made out of honey locust on base and African Sumac on cap.every place the heartwood showed on the Honey locust I textured.I dried the locust in the micro.Sealed with shellac+ multiple coats of Black milk paint.I then rubbed off the milk paint to show the heartwood.5 coats of shellac + 4 coats of wood floor quality water base urethane.then rubbed out the entire pc. with automotive compounds. The cap was off a pc. of African sumac, and was ready to be thrown away..but wait..a roof.I turned and textured half of the 'roof' and dyed the other half with red dye[trans-tint]..then on the red part i dabbed a somewhat repeating pattern of black milk paint.I made a stand out of bent walnut to hold the pc. but was not happy with it.. when i revamp the stand, i'll post it. Thanks for looking!Rob

Now that is cool. You've just given me more work to do on my lathe.

That one sure is different, very cool though, like the imagination everyone has on here.

That's pretty cool, Rob. I really like the shape and texturing on the roof... It really sets this piece apart.

Looks good, but if exposed to the sun, those little birdies might cook.
