    Just curious

I'm replacing carpeting with hardwood flooring. When we pulled up the underlayment the sub floor panels had what appears to be stitching across the sheet. It just looks like the panel was run thru a sewing machine. Appears to have been done when the plywood was manufactured. Appears to be random spacing not 16" or 24" OC. The question is; what is the purpose of this "stitching"?

My guess is they were using up cut offs from the plywood manufacturing process. They were stitched together to make a continuous sheet.

May have been a less expensive sheet to be used in places where looks didn't matter.

It could have been done by a boat builder.

If you do a search on > stitch and glue < you will see how it is done to build small boats.
