    Shop progress

It's been a work in progress over several years. Converted a two car garage into two separate rooms. Three fifths of the garage is now shop space and the remaining space is laundry room.

The space was bare studs, a drywall ceiling that was painted a light brown and four single lamp incandescent fixtures. In short, dark.

She ain't perfect, and she ain't pretty in the details. But it works.

She's coming along nicely Greg. It looks like you have plenty of outlets!

Thanks Bruce. I think I have enough outlets to cover my needs.

I think it looks pretty great. Love the bright walls. Having those windows will pay off with natural light, too.

I installed the big window several years ago. That was the first phase of the shop build. Natural light. And I get some ventilation during the warmer months.

Oh, and as a guy that works in a basement shop, an overhead door like that would be a dream. I've built a couple of things that almost wouldn't come out of the basement.

Well, I am moved back into the shop now. It is nice and clean, lots of elbow room. It is also much brighter now with everything painted white. It is a pretty decent work space and feels like a work shop now.

I need to build a stand for the mortiser and bandsaw, but all in all I am very happy with the result. I just need to find a place to hang my Packers sign.

Thanks for the kind words. I am afraid to mess it up. After years of extension cords, wood chips and dust, poor lighting and cold temperatures, I'm pinching myself. It is a quantum leap forward.

greg....how effective is that modification you made to the blade guard in addressing above table dust collection?

    Joseph,
The guard is an aftermarket unit. It's a Shark Guard. It does a fairly effective job of collecting dust.

I don't know that I would even bother trying to perform any DC with the saw if I did not have an above table collector. The cabinet does a fair job of catching the stuff underneath. But the chips and dust coming off the top tend to get airborne and really make much more of a mess.
