    loosening liquid hide glue

I have a slightly misaligned drawer runner which I need to straighten out. unfortunately it is both screwed into the legs and held with Titebond liquid hide glue against the lower side rail. Has anyone had success is loosening a Titebond liquid hide glue joint and if so any advice on how best to approach it?

    thanks in advance

    Heat

Clothes iron on hi heat on th erunner would do it. Use a spatula on the glue line to run down the joint. Alternatively you can just use a hot spatula on the glue line.

In our shop we used to open hide glue joints with an infrared heat lamp. Direct the light at the joint and keep an eye on it.

    Chris/Howard,

thanks for the quick responses. I will try using heat + spatula on the glue line.

    Chris/Howard,

Success!!! I used a heat gun and a thin spatula to run down the glue line as suggested by Chris and it worked quite well.

    thanks again.

That's great. When you've made all the mistakes that I have, you'll have quite the collection of fix-it tricks. I'm not sure why I continue to make the same mistakes over and over though...

Repair work forces you to learn un-do-its, any opportunity that you have to talk to a conservator or repair specialist take it and do whatever you have to to keep them talking. These folks have repair chops that you'd never even think of!
