    Deft Water-Born Clear Wood Finish...

    Anybody used this stuff yet? Is it really a laquer???

    If it's a waterborne, it's not a real lacquer. It's an waterborne acrylic. Some waterborne acrylics marketed as "lacquer" claim to melt into the underlying coat like real lacquer but the bottom line is that they are acrylic finishes.

    How would they compare to lacquer? (Please forgive my utter cluelessness...)

    It doesn't compare to lacquer at all, they're two entirely different finishes. Acrylic remains fairly soft, abrades easily and polishes to a semi gloss at best. However, rubbing it out makes for one of the nicest satin finishes you'll ever see, but its just not durable.
