A small box for a small friend

Here's a little box I made for a daughter of a friend. Some left over pieces of wood and a little time, and it's not too bad.

The top is beautiful, the sides, not bad but not the same quality of wood.

This is the first time I have put a really Shiny shiny surface on the top. Doesn't show up much in the photo, but the top has a very close to glass finish. One coat a day for about a week.

    Criticisms are encouraged !!

I really like the sled base on this, but perhaps it overhangs a touch too much.

The color in the maple top looks awesome, and the figure all around is very nice, much better in person I assume too. Nice one.

You want criticism, well Ok - here goes - I would have preferred it if you included an end view picture because I like the rest of what I see. Very nice.

The color and grain really pops. what wood is the side made of? curly walnut?
As for criticism, I agree with Trevor that I like the idea of the sled base, but I think it projects too much. I feel it wants to overpower the fine look of the rest of the project.
But in general...Bravo! I like it.
