Here's one ..problem is that EVS motors and controls ain't cheap.

I think the Powermatic is a Reeves drive type of implementation

I was thinking of putting an old treadmill motor on my DP, but I haven't taken the treadmill apart yet.

Now, I wonder if one of the penn state EVS retrofit kits would fit on a DP?

I have on Old Delta 17" drill press that I put a 3 phase motor on with a VFD. Sweet!

My old Craftsman (circa 1958) has variable speed pullies, kinda interesting. You just loosed the knob and slide the speed control back and forth. You can also change the pullies to different speed limits.

Thanks for the responces. You could not give me a Reeves drive. I guess I am looking for one that has 1 hp, maybe 3 phase converter and dial/knob to change speeds, ranges from 50 to 3000, and a deeper throated table. Maybe a DC motor. That big Jet looks good, but maximum speed isn't up there for the tiny bits.

Dave, I have a KING SEELY without the VS option. Sure is a great DP. Wish I had the VS, but I'll live without (dang it).

forget variable speed. i miss the old metalworking drill press we had at school. you shifted gears to change speed. the lowest gear was somewhere around 150 rpm and had enough torque to shatter a 6x1 ash board (dont ask) worked great for drilling a 3 inch hole for my chuck to sit in on blanks

Quill stroke? DP size? Lots of options - new and old. Metalworking DPs can tap and automatically reverse. Budget?
Where did I put that tape measure...
