Always-empty Sent folder?

Today I visited my Sent folder to remind myself how I had worded a recent reply and I found the folder empty. I didn't empty it. Where are my sent messages? I know they go out because I do get replies

Mark...in the upper right hand corner select "Settings"...when you get to your Settings window....down the left side select "General Settings".....scroll down to Private Messaging and make sure "

• Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default" is selected.

I also found therein how to change the upside-down post order that annoys me (only because it's contrary to all the other forums I visit).
