    Small decorative box W/pix

Here is a small decorative box I made from a nicely figured piece of cherry scrap I had laying around. The trim is true mahogany and the colors of both woods have not really mellowed out yet. The box is loosely based on plans I had, nothing too original! The finish is Tried an' true original. The inside is not yet finished, the miters have a tenon in each corner. Thanks for looking.

Looks great. What wood did you use for the legs? It looks like QS Beech, I made a clock from QS beech and it has a unique grain pattern.

Gene, wow! That's a great looking box! You're right, that is some verynice looking cherry. How do you have the inside finished? Is it just open? Thanks for sharing.

John, the legs are mahogany, they just haven't darkened up yet.

Jason, the inside of the box at this point is unfinished. I am going to finish the bottom with either leather or felt. I haven't really decided yet.

    Thanks for the thumbs up!

    Gene -

The lines and the choice of wood make a beautiful box. Well done!

Pretty awesome looking for a piece of scrap. What did the rest of the board get used for?

    Mark,

I was going to add in my description that it was completed without any assistance from sandpaper or power sanders. But I thought it may not be a good idea in the power tool forum. You have a good eye!

    Doug,

It was actually a cherry short that I stumbled on in my wood seeking travels.

Gene, that's a great looking box. I really enjoy projects like that.

But, Mark, I've gotta know, how did you know it was all hand planed???

Ahhhh....Mr. Singer beat me to the punch! Well, kind of. I was just going to ask if it was hand planed or not. Nice to see you practicing what you preach and it does look great! I think that's a design for the ages, so don't worry about "copying" it. Nice job, Gene!
