    Honey locust, minimal turning?

A couple of chunks of Honey Locust (I think). Both from the same dead tree. quite a bit of difference in the color. They are as hard as granite. I liked them both as they were, so I just dressed them up a little. 4" x 3" tall for the dark and 6" x 2 1/2" tall for the light one. 2 coats of Hope's Tung Oil (so far).

Deane - I really like these! Beautiful pieces of wood with just enough turning to show they were touched by man! Very cool! Thanks for sharing!

I like 'em too! Really nice. On the wood, I'm thinking more black locust - that stuff is hard as granite and will make a chainsaw blade spark. Honey Locust, not quite that hard.

I like pieces like this. This is something that just begs to be picked up and handled. Nice.

And to me they look more like Osage or Mulberry, but without the original color it's hard to identify.

I was thinking maybe O.O. too. The dark one was from an exposed cut end that had been laying for years and the light piece was closer to a fresher cut area. The movers wouldn't take the wood when I moved to south TX, I just got to keep a couple of small pieces. no stain or dye on either, just tung oil

Definitely looks like Osage, and definitely not Honey Locust.

I've only had one, hateful experience with Osage orange but to my eyes, this looks a lot like mulberry, especially the darker pieces.

I also really like these. It's enough to know Mother Nature and man worked together.

I'm no help on the wood but I like how you "dressed them up". Simple is good.

I like those Deane. Love simple. Looks like OO to me also. I don't think that is locust.

Whatever the wood, you are getting artistic on us. You did make something with eye appeal out of what might be considered a hard piece. Is there something in the Cuero water?
