Need help with a "Folding Doggie Bed"

A question to the collective of great minds ....

my wife has asked me to come up with a 2' X 3' folding pet bed with 4-6 inch sides. The sides are just to retain the pillow that sits in there to act as bedding. It should have handles on both ends that when brought together could be grasp and lifted using one hand ..... easy enough, except that I have no idea how to build this so that it will fold together without the sides hitting each other preventing the folding function.

I've been trying to draw a plan on SketchUp but the learning curve so far has got the best of me.

I have a fair amount of 1x6 Red Cedar so that will be the material of choice.

Thanks for any design help you folks can offer.

I can help you get up the SketchUp learning curve if you want. Drop me a PM.

As to the folding bed, how about making the long sides in two pieces with one part outside the other. Make the bed in three pieces with two sets of hinges so it folds up sort of like a pizza or shirt box?

I can make a sketch if you need me to.

Here's a sketch. I'll send the SKP file to your e-mail address.

Oh...You meant "a folding bed for a doggie", not "a folding doggie bed".

    Never mind...................
When I started woodworking, I didn't know squat. I have progressed in 30 years - now I do know squat.

Maybe it's a folding doggie, too.
