    Impromptu Vacuum Chuck

I was reading Greg Bender's post on vacuum chuck gasketing and it reminded me that I wanted to post a photo of a quick chuck I came up with the other day. I had a finished mini birdhouse that had a couple small runs in the finish and I wanted to sand them out on the lathe. I installed my collet chuck holder without the nut and collet and presto instant ~1.5 inch vacuum chuck. Slipped a little piece of foam between the metal and the birdhouse and it worked great.

James that is great idea. I will have to see if my collet chuck will work. Sure would save making jam chucks and then having some of them crack when you thin them down to less than a 1/8".
