    Sign Pricing

I didn't even know this forum existed. I'm new to the biz and wanted to ask what you pros would charge for such a sign.

Specs are 11"H x 8"W 1/2" acrylic. Routed edges and scalloped corners with a 1.5" radius. Painted with engraved letters about .020" deep, color filled, about 75 letters.

You can see a pic on my original thread on the engravers forum.

I don't want to start a debate on the cost of doing business, just want to know what you would bid if someone walked in the door and asked for this sign qty 30. I don't even need to know how you came to your number, I just need a price.

    Thanks.

If you don't want to start a debate on the cost of doing business, i don't know then why you are confirming. By the way I think its enough for $50 to $60.

If you'd let people answer this, eventually you wouldn't need to ask the original question... you could calculate it yourself. Just a thought...

I will give you my price but keep in mind that your location, overhead, competition, and how busy you are can make the price vary greatly.

I have done a lot of sandblasted signs, mostly cedar, and the minimum for one color letters on one color background is $125/sf. That comes out to $76 each, and I would give a discount of 10% for that quantity.

For laser I would not quote have to consider the run time and color fill time and probably come out a little higher.

I've never sold signage, but in other works that I've done, the X3 rule works.

Example: Materials cost $25.00. I now know that my goal is to keep labor costs at or below $25.00, which brings us to $50.00. Now I add $25.00 and label it profit. That brings us to a total of $75.00 ea.

The profit part of the equation is purly arbitrary, (just take a look at the pharmaceutical company's for an example), but so far I believe that 33.33% is a fair profit on your standard sale, all things being equal.

That profit margin may change due to a veriety of circumstances, difficulty in production, higher cost of materials, any sales or deals for bulk purchases, for example.

The deal is, we live in America. You can charge anything you want to sell something to someone, but whether or not anyone buys is a different subject...

We've found the "Official Sign Contractors Pricing Guide" to be great help when pricing signs.
It's upgraded each year, about $40. Available at sign wholesaler's.
