Win 8 and SMC

Is anyone having a problem placing the cursor while posting. To be specific my problem is the enter key. It doesn't work, hit it to move the cursor to the next line and nothing. I also cant use the space bar to advance it to the end of the window and let it roll to the next line. I want to start a new paragraph here but I can't. I'm out of options

Not sure if Win 8 has it, but there's usually a "compatability view" button at the top near the address bar. It looks like a piece of paper torn in half.
