Toy Box Lid support problem HELP!!

Ok here is the problem, as you can see there is a 1 1/2" lip around the top.
I was going to buy toy box lid supports from Rockler but they call for a 3/4" back.
I first wanted to lid stay torsion hinges but with a 90 degree break at 3/4" they wont work. Then I looked at the (Toy Box Lid Supports) and they also call for a 3/4" back.
I would really like something that is a soft close that would work

The lid is flat 3/4" flush to back & now will be mounted with a piano hinge + support hinge.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Floyd, could you excavate mortises for those torsion hinges?

Dave that would work routing it out, but I would have to epoxy it in I suppose, & I wonder if that would hold.. than again if I made my hole marks carefully on the inside and pre-drilled ?

I was thinking of making a template to match the screw pattern on the hinge so you could accurately locate holes on the inside of the case. Screws would then run through the hinge and into the trim. Epoxy might still be a good idea to fill the mortise but there are holes in the top of the leaf, too. So if you make your mortises tight enough, you won't need epoxy.

Is the trim permanently attached now?
