Are these planes any good? How do they compare to a bedrock?

I have no idea, but I do have a Sargent Plane book on order -- in transit, actually -- so I may have something usefull to say in a few days.

James Krenov says that "the craftsman lives in a

inverse proportion to the quality of his work."

I guess my public must be pretty huge then.
My Sargent Planes: Identification and Value Guide arrived today!Originally Posted by Aaron Kline
Unfortunately, I still have no idea how the Autosets compare to Bedrocks, as the book just doesn't make qualitative comparisons with other brands.
I can tell you that the Autosets are among the very most "collectible" of Stanley planes, particularly the #707, #707C, and #711C.
Also, the Autosets in general are similar to Stanley's "Gage" planes, but the relevant Sargent patents are actually older than those of Stanely.
