    And now...for something completely different...

Ben Starr (MasterChef season two contestant and blogger) recently posted about putting a chicken on top of his Christmas tree this year. For various reasons, I really liked that idea, especially since we have a lot of chicken and rooster art from all over the world in our home. So I went with the idea to make this a new family "tradition". While the hand-made stars that the girls' made for our first holiday together 7 years ago are still on the tree, this little fellow now rules the roost!

There's an old, old town in Italy that was saved from attack by their chickens who created such a loud noise when they heard the attackers creeping up the side of the hill they woke the town people who were able to fend off the attackers before they could be surprised in their sleep. Since then, chickens have held a special place to the people of that town and all sorts of items like water pitchers, plates, etc. have been dedicated to that lowly bird. We lived in Italy for a number of years and have several chicken items. Would never think of getting rid of them. Never know when a chicken can save your life.
