    Cabinet made from Azek...

This cabinet is for a general store in the baking dept. She got sick of the plywood cabinet they had so asked me to make another one. Had to be washable & I wanted something that wouldn't delaminate like Melamine . So this is sorta of an experiment. The material wasn't a joy to work with. Had to wear a mask the whole time & the fine chips stick to you with static electricity.IMG_8047.jpgIMG_8043.jpgIMG_8042.jpgI then primed it two coats of latex primer & two coats of semi-gloss latex enamel.

Drawer boxes and doors too? Hey why not? Could start to get bendy in a hot room. Like to hear how it holds up after a year. I did build a 20' x 30' pergola out of this stuff and no complaints after 7 or 8 years. I agree it is not a user friendly building material but it's pretty indestructible.

Interesting...and Sam's comment about bendy also came to my mind given what I witnessed with the AZEK trim was added to our addition a few years ago! But that said, the cabinet looks great!

The cabinet is 40'' wide 24'' deep & 36 tall. I made almost everything from 3/4 Azek. The back & drawer bottoms are 1/2 birch plywood...I really didn't find the 3/4 '' stuff to bendy.

It could be worth your time to investigate King Starboard.

It is typically used to build this type of cabinet for outdoor use or on a yacht. You can order it in sheets of different thicknesses pretty much like working with MDF. The color goes all the way through so you don't have to paint. They even make an antibacterial version for food use.

  7. Very nice. My deck is built with Azek and has held up great.

Did you have to glue any of the panels? If so, what glue did you use? Very nice work!!

Gilbert ..It's all made from 3/4 material that came as a 4'x8' sheet. The grooves you see on the doors & sides I did with a router. The bottom dadoes into the sides. I used the adhesive that you use for the Azek & pocket screws. Thanks for the comments.
Greg..I looked into the Starboard which looks really nice but it was to expensive for this project. I got the Azek at a discount because it was damaged...

I did not know that Azek was available in sheets. Where did you find it?
