    Patio Glider

It's not fine woodworking but it is attractive and functional. I built the first one of these for a friend (my design) and a web picture of it led to a commission for a second one. I delivered this one Monday.

The wood is ERC that I harvested and milled from my place and the chairs are modified versions of my adirondack chair design. The glider hardware came from Amazon. TBIII glue, SS screws and hot-dipped galvanized carriage bolts, nuts and washers secure everything. Not shown are the cup holders that I turned from ERC blanks. They were in the shop with finish drying.

Finish is a coat of BLO followed by 7 coats of Epifanes Gloss Marine Varnish. I was about to apply coat No. 5 when I took the pictures. I had approximately 40 hours in the woodworking and a week applying the finish (one coat per day). I already have a request for two more when I get the time to build them.

    Thanks for looking.

Very nice work and the wood used is beautiful. I can understand why you have orders in hand.

Thanks, Jim. I've built so man adirondacks that the glider wasn't bad at all...after I got everything figured out on the prototype.

Thanks, Gordon and I agree that ERC is a beautiful wood.

Thanks, Ken. I brushed everything on this one. Going by the Epifanes schedule, the first two coats are thinned enough to spray but then it becomes too thick on the remaining coats. That stuff is like Karo syrup, unthinned.

Thanks Cody. I built a white oak porch swing last summer and brushed Epifanes High Gloss Marine varnish on it. I had the same feelings you did. I thinned it and brushed it. Then I decided I wouldn't want to brush an unthinned coat on it. It is thick!
