    Glue Help

My wife has an old wooden rolling pin that belonged to her mother.

One handle keeps coming off the metal shaft that runs through the center.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what is the best glue to use to hold the metal rod to the wood handle?

BTW, I am going to replace the old rod with a new one. The old rod is in pretty bad shape rust wise.

    Thanks,

My guess would be epoxy, but that is just a guess.

Check out this site. Will tell you what kind of glue to use when you need to glue "this" to "that". I would assume you will use epoxy like the 5 minute kind from HD.

I also would assume epoxy. In addition consider roughing the ends of the rod, maybe even cutting some threads onto the rod ends, giving the epoxy some 'ledges' to grip onto.

Wood to metal is probably the one legitimate use of Gorilla Glue. Epoxy is kind of brittle, and might pop loose down the road as the wood shrinks and swells.

    Dale:

If you are going out to get a new steel rod, while you are at it, get a stainless one and the rust issue will be done - it won't
cost a whole bunch, and longevity will prevail.

Epoxy and roughed up metal surfaces with a file ( coarse is best ) to insure adhesion. Make sure the female parts of the handle
are clean - pie dough has lard in it, flour etc. will cause adhesion problems - whatever the adhesive. An acetone flush may be in order.

    Good luck!

This is one of those moments, that punsters wait a lifetime for: that link should be sticky.

5 minute epoxy is convenient but not really very good - tends to be brittle. Poly is perfect for your task at hand.
