Thread: Remedies for removing "Sap" from Bandsaw blades.

I use Simple Green at a 50/50 mix. Soak the blade for 30 minutes or more and hose clean. Store the Simple green until needed again. Simple Green is a degreaser so gloves are advised or moisturize hands afterwards.

My method is low tech. I have a length of 1/4" thin-wall brass tubing on a stick. With the bandsaw running I hold the end of the tubing against the side of the blade with the length resting on the table. I move it from the back of the blade to the gullets then do the other side. The buildup comes right off - takes less than 30 seconds. Clean often enough and the tires say clean. The brass tubing gradually wears away. It's not the least bit dangerous in the hands of a thinking person.

I use a similar but scaled-up method to clean the pine pitch buildup from my WoodMizer sawmill blade.
