My daughter designed this for her DS. She drew it up first... I had to help her(just a little) with the computer.

The dark blue really jumps out more that the lighter colors. The light blue looks more like a ghost image on the DS, it still looks nice.

    Anodized cover

I bought a anodized cover for mine. It looks great and it is changeable nothing was burnt on the Dsi itself. I posted a picture of it on here on another thread.

    Hi Gordon,

DSI looks great...my daughter is also after a design, hence the question i posted. Your DSI cover looks as if you have placed laserlite onto the cover and then engraved. Is this the case?

    nope

I bought a cover and put it on my dsi. It is an aluminum cover. I did the layout and then put it in the laser. that is how it came out. I can just change the cover if i don't want the dragon anymore.

Stephen, Yes, that is the DS case. I didn't take the cover off, I just lasered straight onto the DS. Now my daughter is asking why don't I engrave my Laptop.....

Gordon, Just to get this straight.....you laser engraved on to the DSI as purchased and not on to an aluminum protector cover that Jerry has mentioned. If this the case could you please pass on the settings you used as I have a Laserpro Spirit GX 60W machine (before everyone says "Machines are not the same..!") It will give me a good starting point. I have engraved the battery cover on the underside of the DSI and that is definitely ABS plastic, so it would not leave the nice white engraving you are showing on yours. I am also wondering why your DSI has a black spine and blue case?

Stephen, This was laser engraved directly onto the DS. I did not take the cover off, I didn't know it could come off until Jerry's post. This was engraved on the top. There is clear acrylic over the blue color, the coloring is "Back filled" (not sure if that's the correct terminology) on the acrylic. This is why you get a white-ish color when engraved on the TOP of the case, not the underside. This is true with all DS Lites (that I have seen), the Blue just makes it stand out more. I have no clue to why Nintindo designed it with a black spine.
My settings are/were Speed 100% / Power 18%. I came up with this from the Epilog website in the Sample Club. They did a laptop on a 75 Watt Laser.....and used a setting of Speed 100% / Power 10%. Ok, maybe I didn't do correct math to calculate the increase....but......it seemed to work.

***Note, I still haven't taken the back off to test.....but in theory....if the color is "Back Filled", you should be able to reverse engrave it. By doing this, you would not get greasy little finger prints all over your engraving! Just thinking!!!

    Hope this helps,
    G

    Smile Nintendo 3ds

So anyone with kids tried out this year's 3DS model? http://www.nintendo.com/3ds

Curious if the paint is the same still... almost curious to buy one to test, but can't think of anyone to re-gift it to.

    Thanks!

Well, we do have one in the house as of last month... maybe I can pry it out of her hands for long enough to get it into the laser.
