    Framing Attic Stairs ?

This is kind of embarrassing, that I have to ask a question on what might be a simple project for most of you, but can you tell me which of these would be framed correctly for some attic stairs that I am going to be installing?

If neither one could someone draw me something?

    Rough opening 22.5x 54 - rafters 16” on center

    Thanks

If I was doing it, I might do it this way.

Subtle change at the ends of the opening. Probably sister the long joists, too.

You might also double up on the joists that run end-to-end, to make up for cutting the middle joist.

I'm with Thomas on this one. Double the long joists (because they now carry more load) and double the short ones too (same basic reason).

And just to clarify, the short ones should be continuous to transfer the load to the long ones. As shown in the original two with the short ones broken at the cut floor joist, even with joist hangers you're creating a weakness.
