Glaze suggestions over oil based enamel

I built this coffee table for my wife last year, it has been finished with oil base primer and oil base satin enamel paint (please forgive me, I know it's a mortal sin to apply paint to good wood, but got to keep the wife happy). We have been discussing using a glaze to "tone down" the red and give it a little bit of an aged look. I was thinking of using some glaze with a brownish tint to get the look she wants. I'm new to the glazing process, any suggestions on products we could use for glaze and if we need topcoat sealer, suggested sealers over the glaze? With an oil base paint on the table I would assume we would need to use some type of oil base glaze.
