    lacquer finish question #2

I followed the advice....I turned a small bowl....turned off the lathe, I thinned the defth lacquer with LACQUER THINNER, and applied a coat, with the lathe off, here is the questions:

    1. it seems to tack easy and the fibers of the paper towel stick to it

    2. how many coats, more coats glossier finish?

    3. after lacquer dries, can it be waxed and beal buffed?'

    4. once the lacquer is applied with lathe off, how long do you wait to wipe off?
    a. is it wiped off with lathe spinning it?

    thanks...

Also tried one with BLO(boiled linseed oil) thinned down, applied in same steps

I use the Defth simi gloss and don't thin. I swab it on with an old towel while the lathe is off. I let it sit for about a minute. I wipe it off with a paper towel... the brown kind on an unperforated roll. It doesn't have the loose fibers like the kitchen ones. I keep several torn off and ready so I can quickly change them as they get saturated with the lacquer. I wipe the piece completely dry... lathe off. If one does stick, I then use thinner to wipe the bowl down. Next, I take a dry paper towel and with the lathe on, I burnish the bowl letting the towel get warm. For the second and sometimes third coats I wipe them as soon as I put it on and burnish after each. I have buffed right after and I have waited for an hour. It seems I get better results on the buffing if I wait. I got this information from the website below and I like the finish. However, I am thinking of trying what Glenn Hodges does with the tongue oil. He's done some beautiful pieces.
