    Mahogany canopy bed frame...

    Hey Guys!

I have a nice mahogany canopy bed I'm building for a client. It will be based upon an existing design. However, I'd like to make the headboard stand put a bit more. I was considering a raised panel with a contrasting species.

I don't have the pics handy, but this question doesn't really need the pics.

What are some common species used in contrast to African mahogany? FWIW, I plan to use a satin polyurethane clear coat.

    How about Wenge?
    Thanx,

My preference would be to use a mahogany with a more exotic grain pattern - quilted for example, or some flame crotches. I'm not a big fan of mixing species. If not done properly it can look very Shop 101.

Quilted maple can look very good as an accent with genuine mahogany. I think it'll look pretty good with khaya too. No stain, right?!

Right, no stain. Just satin clear coats.
